Data Protection Solution for a Credit Card Center

Project Background

Personal sensitive information refers to data that, once leaked, illegally shared, or misused, may endanger personal and property safety and lead to damage to reputation, physical/mental health, or discriminatory treatment. This includes biometric data, religious beliefs, specific identities, medical records, financial accounts, location information, etc. To protect customer privacy, the credit card center has upgraded its systems and strengthened data protection measures, technologically mitigating leakage risks.

Core Functions

FPE (Format-Preserving Encryption) is an advanced encryption technique commonly used in data protection. Unlike traditional methods, FPE preserves the original data format (e.g., encrypting 11-digit mobile phone numbers as 11-digit strings), ensuring data integrity while preventing leaks. As a key solution, FPE enables financial security, data anonymization, and transparent encryption of legacy databases, balancing privacy and accessibility.

Project Construction Construction Timeline: January 2022 – October 2022 (launched in a single phase).

Project Team: 8 dedicated team members: 1 PM, 4 backend engineers, 1 cryptographer, 2 front-end developers.

Customer Benefits

1. Addresses irreversible data loss from masking techniques.

2. Eliminates the need to alter data formats or expand storage during encryption.

3. Maintains message structure integrity during transmission, avoiding compatibility issues.
